An email writen to all 18U Managers and Coaches on Oct. 30, 2011 concerning
a modification of the 2011 playoff schedule.
Attention: 18U Managers and Coaches Re:
Important playoff message. Because of the disruption of our playoffs caused by inclement weather plus the obvious
reason that it's getting late into the Fall season which the cold rain/wind and snow are factors, certain steps
must be taken to give the 18U Division enough time to complete the post season. In the past, we have
used this proceedure because there's no alternative. If we do not take these steps then the possibility of an incomplete
season will be upon us. So instead of pushing back the games another week which would take us close to Thanksgiving,
the league will impliment the following for Nov. 5th: #4 seed at #1 #3
seed at #2 #5 and #6 seeds will be eliminated from the playoffs. The same goes if this weekend the games cannot be played or the playoffs are incomplete. If this
happens then the 2nd and 3rd teams shall be eliminated leaving the 1st and 2nd place teams to go into the finals.
Lastly, in the worst situation, if the World Series weekend is rained out as well, then the team with
the best record in the regular season will be crowned the Champion. This has been the proceedure used in the past. So
by virtue of the two Rebel teams being in #5 and #6th place during regular season and for the sake of completing post season
games, the Rebels, will be eliminated from competing in the playoffs. If they wish, they can play a double header
on the 5th of November as a consolation. I wish there was another solution but difficult and unpopular decisions
have to be made. I'm sure that all of the managers in this division would like to keep the original schedule and
not see the Rebels eliminated and moreover I pondered and struggled with what available choices I had to
solve this crisis. The decision is final and good luck to all. Take due notice, thereof,
and govern yourselves accordingly. So mote it be, Herman Bomback

SELECT, CUT, AND PASTE THE FORMS BELOW:

Bat Selection
Selecting the right bat for each player can have a significant impact on the success
of that player at the plate. Here's a good rule of thumb that relates bat length to a player's weight.
- 70-80 lbs: 27 inches
- 80-90 lbs: 28 inches
- 90-100 lbs: 29 inches
- 100-130 lbs: 30 inches
- 130+ lbs: 31 inches
Important Note: Your physics professor will tell you that bat speed is much
more important than bat weight and length. Given the same rotational velocity, the outer end of a longer bat will be moving
faster than a shorter bat. But, generally speaking, you can swing a shorter bat faster than a longer bat. When in doubt, choose
shorter and lighter.

What Can A Player Gain by Playing Fall Baseball?
by: Bob Howdeshell High School Baseball Web
The fall
baseball seasons are beginning to get started around the country. Too often players do not get the most they can out of playing
baseball during this time of year. Here are a few ideas and reminders to help this fall be your best ever.
-
A fall baseball season of 10 to 20 games can serve as spring training for next season.
-
Fall
is a time for players to develop skills, not for teams to win games.
-
Pitchers who didn't throw enough in the summer
can get more innings or can work on another pitch, such as a change-up.
-
Pitchers
... work on your pick-off move to first base. Throw over at least once each time a runner is on first base. (Unless there
are runners on other bases)
-
Hitters can get another 30 to 60 at-bats to help groove their swing.
-
Work on hitting the ball to the opposite field ... you are a better player and a more
valuable member of your team the more complete a hitter that you become
-
Hitters fall is a great time to use a wood bat, both in games and in batting practice.
-
Fall
IS NOT the time to waste at bats thinking that you are a power hitter!!
-
Defensively, players can learn another position...
maybe a younger high school player that has played infield all his life needs to play some outfield in order to win a starting
position on the next year's team.
-
Catchers
... find a friend, a parent or even your girlfriend to throw you tennis balls in the dirt ... develop instinctive blocking
skills -- Work on your transfer skills when throwing to a base. You can do this by yourself in the backyard or garage. Make
your feet quicker and your "pop" times will improve.
-
Practices can't hurt ... don't forget to add
a regular "long toss" program to your fall schedule
-
Work
on your base stealing skills ... even players with average speed can become very good high school base stealers. It's all
about learning to read each pitcher's move to first and home.
-
Occasionally college coaches and pro scouts will attend fall games - Don't forget to send the college coaches
your schedule
-
This
fall IS ABSOLUTELY the time to be using the new -3 bats. Don't even think about using your old trusty -5!
-
Fall baseball can be one of the most productive times of the year for a high school player.
-
You
get out of it what you put into it
